Extreme Sports: Man vs. Nature

The popular “extreme sports” category has spread far and wide over the years to represent a multitude of different activities, although exactly which sports are considered ‘extreme’ is debatable. One thing is for sure, these activities often involve a high level of inherent danger, blazing speed, dizzying heights, intense physical exertion, and highly specialized gear.

In traditional sports, athletes compete against each other under controlled circumstances. Extreme sports offer unique challenges due to the high number of inherently uncontrollable variables, or, simply put—nature. These environmental conditions are most often weather and terrain related, including wind, snow, water and mountains. Because these natural phenomena cannot be controlled, they inevitably affect the outcome of the athlete’s quest for dominance.

Below we’ve curated some of the most incredible extreme sports photos that capture the essence of “Man vs. Nature”. Make sure to look closely, some of these shots are so magnificent you’ll have a hard time believing there’s a human in the photo.
